MORE ABOUT THE EVENT:
This evening event celebrates the new “classic edition” of the best-selling book The Five Tibetans published by Inner Traditions.
The Five Tibetans: Five Dynamic Exercises for Health, Energy and Personal Power, has established itself as a classic among yoga practitioners and teachers alike. In this new edition the author shares his own positive experiences from more than 30 years’ devotion to the practice, even during his extensive worldwide travels, and explores the spiritual benefits of the Five Tibetans as well as the profound impact the practice has on health, longevity, and healthy aging.
About the Workshop
Originating in the Himalayas, the five yogic exercises known as the Five Tibetans take only a minimum of daily time and effort but dramatically increase physical strength, energy, and suppleness as well as mental acuity. Enhancing the innate energetic power of the body and mind, these exercises provide a vehicle for enlivening the senses and harnessing energy for the purpose of self-transformation. Since 1978, Christopher Kilham has taught these exercises to thousands of people seeking a healthier lifestyle.
This workshop features insights and teachings from Chris Kilham’s unique weave of forty-one years of daily yoga practice, eighteen years of working with the shamans of South America, and regular daily practice of The Five Tibetans. The lines between yoga and shamanism are blurry at best. Any deep involvement with yoga also includes the knowledge and use of medicinal plants. Just as yoga travels, so does the use of beneficial plants from all around the globe, including the Amazon. From the shamanic tradition come medicines and life-changing psychoactive potions for true healing. In this lively romp through the spirit landscape, Chris will show how yogic, shamanic and other methods all help to crash boundaries of the body, mind and spirit, and open us up to true healing and ecstatic awareness.

“My belief about yoga is that we do not find it; yoga finds us. As a persistent and perennial current of spiritual dynamism, yoga utilizes us to spread itself, to broaden its reach, to touch the lives of others, to keep it going. Many years ago, The Five Tibetans came to me. They caught my imagination. I started to practice them. Eventually I became their ardent advocate. I spread the word far and wide. Today, I am still working on their behalf, still spreading the word, still sharing the methods.” – - Chris Kilham, New Edition, The Five Tibetans 2011

Shamanism
Shamans possess knowledge that can benefit all of humanity, and wisdom that can help to mitigate the wholesale destruction of our fair planet. The various shamans on our site are and have been part of my own journey of discovery. They are friends, teachers, allies, guides.
“As a medicine hunter, I travel the world in search of beneficial traditional remedies that can help to alleviate human suffering, and can be used in place of dangerous, potentially lethal pharmaceuticals. As part of this work, I find myself in many countries, often in very remote places. In all my travels, The Five Tibetans have been my companions. I have practiced these methods in Vanuatu South Pacific, in Siberia, in Morocco, in the Peruvian, Brazilian and Ecuadorian Amazon, high up in the Indian Himalaya, in the Syrian desert, along Xinjiang’s Naladi grasslands, on the Mexican coast, and in countless cities from Kathmandu to Shanghai to Marrakech to Moscow to London to Accra. I have practiced them in hotels, on beaches, on stone patios, in native shacks, on boat docks, in forests, on mountains, in airports. As the Johnny Cash song says, I’ve been everywhere. And so have The Five Tibetans.” - Chris Kilham, The Five Tibetans

About The Book
Five Dynamic Exercises for Health, Energy, and Personal Power

“Yoga helps you rise to the challenge of living. It keeps you from being ground down by circumstance. It puts fire into the body and mind and leads to being balanced and wise. It makes a lot of sense to practice.” – Chris Kilham, The Five Tibetans
Originating in the Himalayas, the five yogic exercises known as the Five Tibetans take only a minimum of daily time and effort but dramatically increase physical strength, energy, and suppleness as well as mental acuity. Also called the Five Rites of Rejuvenation, these exercises were brought to the West in the early 20th century by a retired British army officer who learned them in a Tibetan lamasery. Regular practice of these postures relieves muscle tension and nervous stress, improves digestion, strengthens the cardiovascular system, tunes and energizes the chakras, and leads to deep relaxation and well-being. Enhancing the innate energetic power of the body and mind, these exercises provide a vehicle for enlivening the senses and harnessing energy for the purpose of self-transformation. Since 1978, Christopher Kilham has taught these exercises to thousands of people seeking a healthier lifestyle.
