Ariipaea Salmon, also known as Paea, is someone with whom I have walked many miles, including many passes through pits of roaring fire, in Vanuatu, South Pacific. Originally from Tahiti, he is a prince in the Tahitian royal family, a plant expert, a powerful presence, a rascal, and a brother. Paea introduced me to kava, tamanu oil, and many things in the South Pacific.

It is with tremendous sadness that I want to let you know that Paea has died. Of the experiences I have enjoyed with friends, some of my times with Paea stand out as among the most memorable. Please read Into The Fire, our tribute page. (March 21, 2011)
